Meet the Founder
Irene Guadalupe Salas
After studying fashion design and pattern making at Los Angeles Trade Technical-College in the late 1980s, I returned to Belize to open up one of the first fashion boutiques in the country. De’ Burgess was established in 1992 in Orange Walk Town, with the idea of selling women’s clothing designed and sewn by me. Some of my designs were even sold at Brodies Supermarket in Belize City!
I’d like to think that my efforts fell short because of the lack of social media to promote my designs. Therefore, I slowly started venturing into retail products of women’s and men’s clothing and accessories. It was the first general clothing boutique in Orange Walk for a few years. However, over a decade ago, my business model changed once again.
What started as a fashion boutique, De’Burgess is now a small industrial company that mass produces textile products for schools and offices. I found myself wanting to create and to rebuild that passion for designing. Over 30 years later, I am now constantly creating, designing, and manufacturing products for Belizeans.
